Nelahozeves Castle is located 35 km north of Prague, high above the Vltava River. With its impressive Renaissance architecture, engaging museum exhibition, charming Gift Shop and picturesque setting, the Castle is a popular destination for tourists of all backgrounds and interests. About the Exhibition The permanent exhibition, Private Spaces: A Noble Family at Home, illustrates in extensive detail how an influential noble family lived in the 19th century. Inspired by the era of Ferdinand Zdenko, 10th Prince Lobkowicz (1858-1938), the twelve period rooms visited on the guided tour include the elegant Dining Room, the bedrooms of the Prince and Princess, the Music Room, the Prince’s Smoking Room, the Family Chapel, and the Prince’s Library featuring a rotating selection of books and manuscripts from the Lobkowicz Archive and the 65,000-volume Roudnice Lobkowicz Library. In the Grand Drawing Room, important paintings by Jan Brueghel the Elder, Rubens, Veronese and Panini, as well as exquisite pieces of pietra dura furniture, are on display. Two of the largest galleries are devoted exclusively to hunting and shooting – country pursuits central to the social and recreational activity of the landed aristocracy. Staghorn furniture, trophy heads, personal hunting memorabilia and fine examples from the extensive gun collection are now on public display here for the first time. Visitors are lead through the galleries by Castle guides, who describe in vivid detail the lifestyle of the family and the significance of the objects on display.
