PRAGUE UNDERGROUND TOURVISITOR INFO

Explore a side of Prague that many never see. This tour visits the historic cellars beneath the Old Town Hall and Astronomical Clock, taking you to chambers dating back to the 12th Century. Ever since King John of Luxembourg granted the Old Town the right to have its own council in 1338, the Old Town Hall has stood at the heart of Prague’s history and daily life. Although it began as a single house bought as a place for the council to hold their meetings, it soon expanded and dominated the Old Town Square, until it was almost destroyed in 1945 in the Prague Uprising. Underneath the building are a set of catacombs and chambers, restored in recent years so visitors can gain an insight into the fascinating history of this important building. There you’ll find a former courtroom and traces of the Old Town prison once located beneath the Hall, as well as traces of the building’s former life as a family home. Our highly knowledgeable guides will take you through 800 years of history, from the construction of the Old Town Hall and the founding of the council, to the expansion of the building, through wars and religious strife, right up to the dramatic battle in 1945 which nearly destroyed the Hall. See part of Prague that other tours walk right past without noticing, and let us give you a unique view of Czech history on the New Prague Underground Tour.
